This Land Wasn’t Made For You And Me

A friend of mine says Woody Guthrie’s This Land is Your Land should be our national anthem. I agree, but it would never happen. The message is too damn commie. Lyrics like “this land was made for you and me” don’t sit well with plutocrats. Besides, this land wasn’t made for you me. It belonges to crass nincompoops like Donald Trump and Jamie Dimon; Paris Hilton and Snooki. It’s their world to wreck and pollute, and that’s exactly what they’re doing.

If there was anything resembling justice on this little blue dot the aformentioned people would have been Roman galley slaves. But there isn’t and they weren’t.

These verses have no place in the current zeitgeist:

As I went walking, I saw a sign there,
And on the sign there, It said “no trespassing.”
But on the other side, it didn't say nothing!
That side was made for you and me.

In the squares of the city, In the shadow of a steeple;
By the relief office, I'd seen my people.
As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking,
Is this land made for you and me?
